Why Do it DW?
Starting and Evolving 'Do it DW': My First Business Journey
When I first embarked on my journey to create 'Do it DW,' I was filled with equal parts excitement and uncertainty. As someone with a background in servicing the manufacturing sector, I knew firsthand the importance of understanding customer needs and delivering value. However, stepping into the world of entrepreneurship was a completely new adventure—one that has pushed me to grow in ways I never anticipated. This blog is a reflection on why I started 'Do it DW,' the lessons I've learned along the way, and why I’ve chosen to adapt my approach as I’ve navigated my first business venture.
Why I Started 'Do it DW'
The idea for 'Do it DW' was born from a combination of personal ambition and a desire to create something scalable, impactful, and profitable. I’ve always believed in the power of taking action—to "just do it" but in a way that’s purposeful and intentional.
I wanted to build a business that aligned with key pillars I value: impactibility, profitability, and a strong brand mission. My vision was to create something that could grow without exponential cost increases, attract a passionate team in time, resonate with tech-savvy & socially conscious people from all areas.
Choosing the name 'Do it DW' wasn’t easy—it was one of the more challenging decisions I had to make early on. I wanted something that felt personal yet professional, with a touch of branding that would stand out. Including my full name didn’t feel right for me, but my initials, DW, have always carried meaning. They’re part of my identity and a connection to my family. The last DW in our family was my late grandfather, someone I greatly admired. When the idea of 'Do it DW' came to me, it felt like the perfect blend of motivation, personal significance, and branding. It was a name that honoured my roots while embodying the action-oriented mindset I wanted my business to represent.
The Challenges and Lessons Learned
Starting a business is rarely a straightforward path, and 'Do it DW' has been no exception. I quickly realized that turning ideas into reality requires more than just enthusiasm. It demands strategic planning, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from mistakes. Here are a few of the key lessons I’ve learned:
Scalability Isn’t Always Simple: I’ve had to rethink certain aspects of my initial ideas to ensure they were truly worth it. For example, I discovered that while some ideas sounded exciting, they weren’t logistically straightforward or economically feasible to produce on a scale for my customers.
The Power of Adaptability: As much as I’d love for every decision to be the right one, I’ve had to pivot and refine my approach several times. Whether it’s tweaking the concept or exploring new ways to market 'Do it DW,' being adaptable has been crucial.
Why I’ve Changed Things Along the Way
Initially, I envisioned 'Do it DW' as a service-based business with a clear, straightforward concept. But as I’ve learned more about my target audience, the market, and the process of scaling, I’ve realized the importance of evolving my approach. For instance:
Focus on the Long Game: Rather than rushing to launch something, I’ve taken time to refine the idea, ensuring it’s not just something I’m passionate about but something that’s economically viable and marketable in the long term.
Building a Rapport: I’ve come to understand the value of creating a brand mission that resonates with people. 'Do it DW' isn’t just about selling me; it’s about inspiring action and fostering a sense of connection and worth.
Looking Ahead
As I continue to grow 'Do it DW,' I’m excited about the possibilities. This journey has been anything but linear, but that’s what makes it so rewarding. Every challenge has taught me something new, and every pivot has brought me closer to creating something I’m truly proud of.
I’m sharing this story not just to reflect on my own journey but to inspire others who might be considering starting their own business. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that success isn’t about getting everything right the first time. It’s about being willing to take the leap, learn as you go, and keep pushing forward—no matter what.
